Child & Family Stability

Meet our Opportunity Champion, Georgia Krueger, Executive Director of the Ada Jenkins Center

Leading on Opportunity: What is your vision for economic mobility in Charlotte-Mecklenburg?

Georgia Krueger: The Ada Jenkins Center is committed to creating an environment in which:

  • Anyone who seeks economic mobility can attain it. To help create communities where this is possible, we support families and individuals with integrated services that put the client-partner in control of their own plan; promote a robust safety net that serves people in times of need and those on the journey to economic stability; push our own thinking to re-envision the ways the community can come together to embrace a broader range of possibilities for reaching economic mobility; and advocate for the removal of barriers that serve as roadblocks to success.
  • Social capital opportunities are forged to promote connections that encourage everyone to explore pathways to economic mobility. We do this by actively seeking and developing ways to create and sustain social capital connections that open doors for reaching success; and creating opportunities for both bridging and bonding social capital.

Leading on Opportunity: What does opportunity mean to you?

Georgia Krueger: We believe that all people are created equal and therefore deserve access to, and assistance with, the resources that enhance the probability of increasing their economic mobility. That said, opportunity means the probability – not simply the possibility - of success. The Ada Jenkins Center exists to help people create lasting solutions to health, education and economic stability. We do this, in part, by helping families find paths through barriers and mitigate challenges so they can reach their goals.

Leading on Opportunity: How does Leading on Opportunity’s North Star Goal inspire and connect to your work?

Georgia Krueger: We believe that Leading on Opportunity’s North Star Goal is a mirror image of the work we do every day. The Ada Jenkins Center helps people create lasting solutions for health, education, and economic stability, so that every child will grow up with the resources and support needed to achieve social and economic success.

Moving Charlotte from 50 out of 50 in economic mobility is a collaborative, community effort. With that in mind, we set a goal to build an Opportunity Movement that celebrates everyone's contributions. On March 26, 2019, we honored 50 Inaugural Opportunity Champions who have gone above and beyond to support implementation and align to one or more of our 21 community-inspired strategies within the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Opportunity Task Force Report. Often without any public recognition, this group of distinguished leaders set the bar high for others in our community to invest in building a stronger equitable community for all children, youth and families.
